The Devil Wears Prada released a 7″ of their new single “South Of The City” exclusively for Record Store Day (April 18th). While the physical copy was only available for the audiophile’s holiday, the digital download is now available for purchase on iTunes and for streaming on YouTube below. The new single was preceded by a documentary of the same name from the band’s recording sessions.

The single is a significant turn in style for the well known metalcore band. The sound of “South Of The City” is more stripped down, contemplative and unassuming than some of their past tracks for which they have become known (“Outnumbered,” “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?”, “Born To Lose”). The feeling the song exudes is a lingering one, a sensation and a sound like falling rain, as vocalist Mike Hranica repeats the line “When it rains, I feel better” for a good part of it’s 4+ minute duration.
