This is the music that scares your parents and neighbors. This is the music the old people (and people who just don’t get it) refer to as “just noise”. It’s Craig Owens‘s latest side project, BEA5T, with a four song EP entitled Empathy Is A Gift, and it’ll make your ears bleed in a really, really great way.
The runtime for this one is less than your average car ride to your nearest Dunkin’ Donuts and great for those with short attention span, yet still satisfying enough for those who are a bit too used to full-length records. It’s straight belligerent. It’s noise. It’s lunacy. But it’s grindcore, so yeah.
The best part of Empathy Is A Gift may just be how unexpected it is. You will find no sweetly soaring Owens vocals here like you will with Chiodos or D.R.U.G.S. Shrill screams? Yes. Rampaging guitar licks? Yes. Indecipherable chaos? Hell yes. You don’t have to know what it’s saying, but if you get it, it’ll speak to you loud and clear.
