Record Review: Knocked Loose “Laugh Tracks”

“All my heroes went to hell.”

Knocked Loose just made my iPod the heaviest thing I own. Their debut EP Laugh Tracks is the hardest thing you’ll be part of this year. Kentucky just went from zero to brutal with these guys.

The album begins as the hardcore album you were expecting, and by the time you reach the end you’ll want to break everything if you haven’t already crushed whatever you were holding or strangled your cat (please don’t). Laugh Tracks is a progression from hard to hellish. There is no remorse in the down-tuned, but often melodic guitars. The rhythm section blends perfectly with a voice made entirely of hatred, violence and anguish.

“I won’t cover my scars for you,” is the opening line of “Blood Will Have Blood.” It’s an accurate description of the record. Knocked Loose hold nothing back. The result is a harsh, bloody collection of songs about revenge, corruption, betrayal, loneliness and despair. This is the musical incarnation of pain.

Laugh Tracks is scary enough to frighten anyone who looks down on you for being different. It’s the soundtrack to real life for many of us. It’s a good place to start if your heroes are also in hell. I can’t stop listening to this record.
