NEED-TO-KNOW: The Nearly Deads

If you’re looking for some new punk jams with strong female vocals, it’s time you check out The Nearly Deads. The Nashville band recently released a new six song EP, Revenge! Of The Nearly Deads, and it sounds exactly like the album cover looks. It mixes the dark edge of destruction with a little bit of fun. It wouldn’t be a surprise to find one of these songs on the radio, but they certainly don’t leave out the beloved bite of punk rock. This EP is where self-empowerment meets wrath, and you’ve got to give it a spin.

American Standards Get Extremely Personal With New Record ‘Anti-Melody’

American Standards usually center their records around social commentary, and while there is still a healthy amount of that on the Arizona band’s new record Anti-Melody, they’ve also endeavored to try something completely new for them. As tragedy after tragedy befell the band members during the writing process of this record, they realized that they couldn’t put out an honest album without being open about their personal experiences.

‘We Have No Heroes’: Punk, Hardcore, Positivity In Our Time Of Unrest

There are select moments in history when the entire world is engaged in one singular conversation. We are living in one of those moments.

I showed up at Boontunes, a music venue/record shop in Boonton, NJ on Saturday night November the 12th, 2016, one night after I had engaged in a love rally that marched from Washington Square Park to Trump Tower in New York City. It was just supposed to be another night on the local band circuit, hanging with friends, doing my job as a journalist, and supporting the vinyl release of local hardcore act Hell Mary. What I got was so much more.

SPOTLIGHT: Hell Mary Self-Titled Vinyl Release Show

hell-mary-release-show

If there is a reason you need to pay attention to local NJ hardcore it is the chaotic natural force that is Hell Mary. Their self-titled record claims 10 tracks, most of which never make it past the 2-minute mark. It’s classic, rage-fueled hardcore meets the eclecticism and speed of bands like Every Time I Die. And yet, you’ve most likely never heard of them unless you’re a Jersey local. They’re a gem very much kept under the dirt, and perhaps they like it that way, but you’re missing out if you haven’t had them tear your ears off and throw them underneath their drummer’s bass pedal. So do yourself a favor and give the record a listen and check out a live show whenever you get the chance.

INTERVIEW: Church Tongue Talk New Record ‘Heart Failure,’ Setting People On Fire

If you’re like us, you were introduced to Indiana’s Church Tongue when a video of the band setting their guitarist (Chris Sawicki) on fire went viral last year.  The act was one of the most insane displays of punk we’ve ever seen, and now the band are here to deliver a new record to shake the hardcore scene. Church Tongue guitarist Nicko Calderon took some time to talk to us about the upcoming record, Heart Failureand why they started setting people on fire in the first place.
